DENMARK, S.C. – Voorhees University Professor of Health and Wellness and Head Men's and Women's Cross Country and Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field Coach Jeffery Hughes has been appointed South Region Representative on the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics–Track and Field Coaches Association (NAIA-TFCA) Executive Committee. Hughes was also selected to serve as Chair of the Indoor Games Committee.
The dual appointments recognize Hughes' leadership, experience and commitment to advancing collegiate track and field while elevating Voorhees University's representation at the national level.
As the South Region Representative, Hughes will represent coaches and programs across seven states: Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina and Florida. In this capacity, he will serve as a voice for the region, advocating for member institutions and contributing to decisions that shape the future of NAIA track and field and cross country.
The NAIA-TFCA Executive Committee plays a significant role in the governance and administration of intercollegiate track and field and cross country. The committee works collaboratively with the NAIA national office, sport administrators and various subcommittees to guide policies, competition standards and championship operations.
Among its key responsibilities are overseeing association governance and elections, contributing to the establishment of national qualifying standards for indoor and outdoor track and field, coordinating championship procedures and event guidelines, and reviewing proposed modifications to sport-specific competition rules.
Through his position on the Executive Committee, Hughes will have an opportunity to contribute to discussions and recommendations that directly impact NAIA student-athletes, coaches and member institutions nationwide.
In addition to his regional leadership responsibilities, Hughes will serve as Chair of the Indoor Games Committee. In this role, he will help guide committee discussions related to indoor national championship operations, competition procedures and event administration, working alongside fellow coaches and NAIA representatives to support a competitive and well-organized championship experience.
The appointments place Hughes in two important leadership positions within the NAIA track and field community and further demonstrate the impact of Voorhees Athletics beyond the university campus.
Hughes also serves as a Professor of Health and Wellness at Voorhees University, where he contributes to the academic, personal and athletic development of students. His commitment to student-athlete success extends beyond competition through his emphasis on leadership, education and overall wellness.
His selection reflects the growing presence of Voorhees University within the NAIA and reinforces the institution's commitment to developing leaders who make meaningful contributions to collegiate athletics.
