VOORHEES MEN DOWN HASKELL 107-97 IN DOUBLE OVERTIME

DENMARK, SC – For the second time in as many nights, the host Voorhees men needed two overtimes to earn a victory as the Tigers downed Haskell Indian Nations 107-97 in double overtime Saturday during the second day of a three-day Continental Athletic Conference (CAC) POD hosted by Voorhees. In a Friday evening contest, Coach James Williams' team defeated Wilberforce 81-74 in a double overtime thriller.

The game was knotted up at 79-all at the end of regulation and was deadlocked 90-90 after one extra period.

Julius Phillips led four Tiger players in double figures with 23 points in the win. Hector Rosario, who reached the 1,000-point career plateau in Friday's triumph, added 20 points, including six in the second extra period. Also in double figures for the Tigers were Tyler Willoughby with 18 points and Keshawn Evans with 17 and a game-high 15 rebounds.

The host improved to 9-12 overall and remained perfect in the CAC at 5-0.

Nahcs Wahwassuck, one of three players lost to fouls by Haskell, led the Fightin Indians with a game-high 32 points and eight rebounds. Also adding double-digit points for Coach Matthew Downing's team were Nehemiah Boykins with 19, along with eight boards, Bryan Strom with 17, Ira Blackbear with 11 and Dakari Middleton with 10. Haskell fell to 8-15 and 5-4 in the CAC.

Voorhees held a double-digit lead in the early going of the contest and went to the locker room ahead 37-26. Haskell chipped away at the Tiger lead and pulled to within two, 46-44, at the 15:23 mark of the final half. A 15-5 run by Voorhees pushed the lead to 61-49 but the Fightin Indians would not go away and tied the game three times, the last time at 79-all, forcing the first overtime.

Haskell got the first basket of the overtime to go ahead 81-79 and there were four ties before the Tigers took a 90-87 lead with 21.1 seconds left in the overtime. Strom hit a 3-pointer for Haskell with 0.01 seconds left to tie the game at 90-90 and send it to a second extra period

Following two lead changes in the second overtime, Phillips connected on a 3-pointer to give the Tigers a 97-95 advantage at the 2:18 mark. Voorhees made 8-10 from the line to pull away for the 107-97 victory.
