On December 17, 2024, the Voorhees University Lady Tigers faced a tough loss against the Wiley University Lady Wildcats with a final score of 55-47 in a critical conference basketball showdown at Athletes in Action in Xenia, Ohio. Despite a valiant effort and leading performances from Jessica Nerestant and
Kaelin Davis, turnovers in the critical final period allowed Wiley to cement their victory.
The game began with high intensity as both teams battled closely, reflecting in the halftime score of 25-22 in favor of Wiley. The Lady Tigers, unable to maintain their momentum, struggled with turnovers towards the game's conclusion, which Wiley capitalized on to extend their lead and secure the win. Jessica Nerestant shone brilliantly for Voorhees with a robust 18 points, supported by
Ty'Shemia Bunkley with 11 points and significant rebounds, but it was not enough to overpower Wiley's cohesive gameplay.
Additionally, players like Celebria Peacock and Nyathiel Wal contributed significantly on the rebound, demonstrating the depth of the Lady Tigers' roster. Despite this setback, the Lady Tigers showcased resilience and skill indicative of their strong season record, now standing at 8-2 overall and 4-2 in the conference.
Looking forward, Voorhees University aims to bounce back in their next game scheduled on January 3, 2025, against Stillman College in Tuscaloosa, AL. As the team regroups, they focus on minimizing errors and leveraging their strengths for the upcoming challenges in the 2025 basketball season.
