Voorhees University Lady Tigers Basketball Team Faces Setback Against Oakwood Lady Ambassadors

By: Norman O'Neal

The Voorhees University Lady Tigers faced a challenging home game against the Oakwood University Lady Ambassadors on November 22, 2025. The contest, held at the Leonard E. Dawson Health and Human Resources Center, was a crucial HBCU Athletic Conference game during the regular season.

The game began with enthusiasm as Voorhees secured an initial lead with a layup from Kierra Diggs. Despite their early momentum, the Lady Tigers struggled to maintain their lead as Oakwood took control later in the first period. The Lady Ambassadors led by Jay'Lenia Thomas and Kamaria Murray's key plays, turned the tide, ending the first period ahead 18-12.

The subsequent periods saw Oakwood widen their advantage, particularly during the second period where key three-pointers from Kamaria Murray and Trenisha Adams boosted their lead. The halftime score reflected Oakwood's dominance, showing a significant lead of 40-24. Despite aggressive plays and a defensive effort from players like Albertine Cyuzuzo who blocked key shots, Voorhees University found themselves trailing.

In the third period, Oakwood maintained their lead, increasing their advantage to 24 points. The final period displayed a more robust defense from Voorhees, with the team reducing the lead. Important contributions came from Kierra Diggs and newcomer Tierra Griffin, but Oakwood, bolstered by Lydia Josiah's crucial 3-pointer, managed to seal the game with a final score of 67-56 in favor of the Lady Ambassadors.

Voorhees University's top performers included Kierra Diggs, who scored 11 points and secured 10 rebounds, and Zaniyah Snow, who contributed 12 points and 5 assists.

Looking forward, the Lady Tigers will face Stillman College in their next match on December 4, 2025, in Denmark, SC. The Lady Tigers, currently standing at 3-5 overall, including a 0-2 record in the conference games, are eager to refocus and claim a victory in the upcoming contest.
