In a closely contested HBCU athletic conference game held on February 1, 2025, the Voorhees University Tigers saw a spirited effort fall just short against the Stillman College Tigers, with a final score of 62-67. Playing before their home crowd in Denmark, SC, the Voorhees Tigers faced a challenging scenario trailing by 9 points at halftime with a score of 29-38. Despite a determined second-half resurgence, the home side couldn't overcome the deficit.
Voorhees' standout players were
Keshawn Evans and
Omari Bryson. Evans led the scoring with 19 points and also secured a double-double with an impressive 10 rebounds. Bryson added 16 points and contributed on the defensive end with 3 rebounds and a steal. Other notable performances came from
Umar Lawson, who provided 9 points,
Daethan Harris with a well-rounded effort of 4 points and 3 rebounds, and
Alonzo Johnson who contributed 7 points.
Xavier Finney, though he didn't score, played a vital role with 3 rebounds.
Despite the loss, the Tigers showed commendable resistance and are preparing to bounce back in their next confrontation against Clinton College on February 3, here in Denmark, SC. Voorhees now holds a season record of 5-15, with 3-10 in conference games. They will be looking to improve their stance as they continue through the demanding HBCU conference schedule.
