Empowering Future Champions: Voorhees Coach Courtney Tucker Leads Skills Camp for Bahamian Softball Athlete

By: Dr. Charis Tucker, Assistant Professor - Department of Recreation, Sport, and Tourism

On July 3, 2025, Voorhees Head Softball coach, Courtney Tucker partnered with the Bahamas Athletic Pride Softball Program to host a skills development camp in Nassau, Bahamas. The event featured over 90 aspiring female athletes from across the island for a day of instruction, empowerment, and athletic development. Participants were divided into rotating groups, where they took part in fundamental skill-building stations focusing on hitting, fielding, and base running.

The camp provided an immersive experience, blending technical drills with teamwork and competitive spirit. Coach Tucker was joined by April Davis, a junior softball player at Voorhees university as they led a special session focused on the collegiate recruiting process and the day in the life of a student athlete. The interactive discussion offered participants valuable insight into what it takes to compete at the collegiate level academically, athletically, and personally. The event is a part of a growing partnership between Coach Tucker's nonprofit organization, Diamond Life, Inc and the Bahamas Athletic Pride Softball Program, which continues to create opportunities for young athletes in the U.S. and abroad.
