TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Voorhees University women's basketball fell behind early and could not overcome a dominant effort on the glass by Stillman in a 75-49 road loss Thursday evening at Birthright Alumni Hall.
The Tigers trailed after each quarter as Stillman used a 16-5 opening frame and a 23-point third quarter to create separation. Voorhees' best stretch came in the fourth, when the Tigers scored 22 points and showed renewed energy on both ends, but the late push was not enough to erase the deficit.
Voorhees struggled to find an early rhythm offensively, managing just five points in the first quarter while Stillman built a double-digit lead. Stillman's perimeter shooting set the tone, capped by a 3-pointer from Danyjhia Williams that pushed the margin to 12-5 and a late jumper from Mya Jones that made it 16-5 after one. The Tigers answered early in the second quarter when Zaniyah Snow connected from beyond the arc to cut the Stillman lead to 18-8, but Stillman continued to string together scores and took a 35-20 advantage into halftime.
The game swung decisively in the third quarter, where Stillman outscored Voorhees 23-7. A 3-pointer by A'Nya Banks stretched the lead to 51-25, and another 3 from Carlisha Enge made it 56-27 as Stillman's balance and rebounding edge took control. Stillman finished with a 49-37 advantage on the boards, including 13 offensive rebounds that led to multiple second-chance opportunities.
Voorhees responded with its strongest period in the fourth. After Kameryn Davidson converted a three-point play to open the quarter, the Tigers continued to battle and found more consistency on offense, scoring 22 points in the final 10 minutes. Voorhees finished with 21 field goals and assisted on 12 of them while also recording 13 steals and six blocks, showing activity defensively despite the final margin.
Forward Sommer Joseph led Voorhees with an efficient night in the paint, scoring a game-high 16 points on 7-of-15 shooting and grabbing eight rebounds, including five on the offensive glass. Guard Nedisha Ford anchored the Tigers' perimeter defense, logging 38 minutes and posting five steals to go with five points, four rebounds and two assists. Snow added a key 3-pointer in the second quarter to highlight the Tigers' efforts from the perimeter.
As the Tigers move deeper into their schedule, the matchup at Stillman offers a clear benchmark: maintaining the defensive activity that produced 13 steals while pairing it with four quarters of consistent offense and stronger work on the glass. Voorhees will look to build on the late-game momentum from the fourth quarter as it prepares for the next stretch of contests.
