Entering into his third season as Voorhees University's head baseball coach. O'Neal served as the pitching coach at Claflin University as a graduate assistant, reporting to the now-retired James Randall, but is also currently serving in the capacity of an Instructor of Sport Management at Voorhees University.
Both on and off the field, the Tigers have advanced by leaps and bounds under the direction of Coach O'Neal. By helping organize their second annual Major League Baseball Pro-Day in South Carolina, which included draft-eligible players from all historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs), the program garnered interest not only from MLB officials but also from prospective student-athletes seeking to continue their playing careers. After assuming the position two weeks prior to the 2021–2022 season, he guided the Tigers to a 9–15 overall record in his inaugural season. O'Neal utilizes his network connections to acquire renovations for the baseball and softball facilities, including new sod and irrigation, as well as glove deals with Akadema Pro, TrueCoach, and ArmouredHeat.
Coach O'Neal had a distinguished playing career at Claflin University as a pitcher, where he contributed to the Panthers' success by earning an all-conference honors designation and making it to the SIAC tournament in their first year. During his senior year, O’Neal assumed more of the role as the pitching coach due to a rotator cuff injury during that fall. This is where former head coach Randall saw his potential, which resulted in his hiring after graduation. O'Neal had his best season with the Panthers as a junior, finishing 11-2 with an ERA of 3.14 and 150 strikeouts.
Coach O'Neal enlisted in the United States Navy as a Cryptologic Technician, Collections, after his collegiate career. O'Neal began his professional career as a business intern for the AutoZone Liberty Bowl after an injury ended his military career. He would subsequently serve in the front office of the St. Louis Cardinals' Triple-A affiliate, the Memphis Redbirds. Having observed his prowess during his time with the Redbirds, the Memphis Grizzlies recruited him to assist in the founding of the Memphis Hustle, their G-League affiliate. After spending a combined four years in the professional sports industry prior to joining COVID, O'Neal made the decision to pursue an Instructor of Sport Management position at Voorhees College, an institution he continues to be affiliated with to this day.
Coach O'Neal graduated from Claflin University in 2009 with a Bachelor of Science in Sport Management, Claflin University; from the University of Memphis in 2017 with a Master of Science in Sport Commerce; and from Full Sail University in 2021 with an Associate of Science in Mobile Development.
He is also a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.
A native of Elko, South Carolina, Coach O’Neal is the joyful father of two daughters, Tyler and Denver.
