Dr. Marcus Amos serves as Faculty Athletic Representative, Assistant Professor of Sport Management, and Faculty Senate President at Voorhees University. A native of Augusta, Georgia, Dr. Amos brings more than 25 years of experience at the intersection of athletics, education, and social services.
He is the Founder and Executive Director of Prevention Education for Athletes, Inc., a nonprofit organization dedicated to community enhancement, athlete care and development, collaborative programming, fundraising initiatives, and life-skills education. A nationally recognized expert in opioid and substance use prevention within sports, Dr. Amos has provided media consultation for HBO Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel, ESPN Outside the Lines, ESPN Radio/News, 60 Minutes, 20/20, the Los Angeles Times, and ABC News. He is also the creator and host of the radio program “Sports & Society with Dr. Amos.”
Dr. Amos holds dual bachelor’s degrees from Saint Augustine’s College and Southern University, dual master’s degrees from South Carolina State University and Louisiana State University, and a doctorate from the University of Tennessee. He lives by the principle: “Education is useless if you are not using it to help someone else.”

Prior to joining Voorhees, Dr. Amos worked in athlete academic and support services at the University of New Mexico and Louisiana State University. He served seven years as a mentor with the NCAA First Team Men’s Basketball Program (later rebranded as NCAA/NBA IHOOPS). During the 2005–2006 NBA season, he completed a graduate internship as a Basketball Operations Assistant with the Washington Wizards.
Dr. Amos has also served as an NCAA Health & Safety Grant Speaker focusing on opioid prevention in athletics. His commitment to community service includes volunteer leadership roles with the Yes I Can! nonprofit organization (Baton Rouge, La.) and the Z.E.A.L. Life-Skills Program for Student-Athletes (Albuquerque, N.M.).
Currently, he serves as Consulting Director of Player Resources, Mental Wellness & Performance for Full Circle Confidential (New York, N.Y.) and has worked as an Athlete Care & Player Development Consultant for Athlete Advantage. Earlier in his career, he was Director of Player Development & Regional Scout for Elite Global Sports.
Dr. Amos remains actively engaged in athlete advocacy through his work with the Radical Hope Peer Support Program. His academic and practitioner interests include opioid prevention in sports, athlete life-skills development, career transition, mental health and wellness, and addressing barriers impacting athletes both on and off the field.
A member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Dr. Amos resides in Augusta, Georgia. He enjoys traveling, volunteering at his church, attending sporting events, and continuing his lifelong mission of advocating for athlete well-being.
