Voorhees Women Open Season with Dominant Road Win Over Morris College

By: Norman O'Neal

SUMTER, S.C. – The Voorhees University women's basketball team opened the 2025–26 season with a strong statement, defeating Morris College 72–55 on Saturday afternoon. The Tigers, led by Head Coach Edward Glover, controlled the pace from the opening tip and never trailed on their way to a convincing road win.

Voorhees (1–0) surged ahead early behind an aggressive offensive attack and steady defensive presence. The Tigers opened the game on a 10–2 run and led 24–12 after the first quarter, establishing momentum they would not surrender. Morris managed to trim the lead to two possessions in the second quarter, but Voorhees responded with a 9–0 burst before halftime to extend the margin to 38–26.

Balanced Scoring Leads the Way

The Tigers showcased depth and balance throughout the lineup, with multiple players contributing in double figures. Shykiera Brown led all scorers with 25 points, providing energy and consistency from start to finish. Kierra Diggs followed with 15 points, delivering key baskets in the second and fourth quarters to help secure control.

Kaelin Davis added 9 points while providing defensive stability on the perimeter, and Zaniyah Snow contributed 6 points and steady playmaking at guard. Off the bench, Bryah Henry supplied a spark with 6 points, while Syriah Hogan, Albertine Cyuzuzo, and Anaze Ravenel combined for 11 points to round out the scoring.

Defense Sets the Tone

Voorhees' pressure defense disrupted Morris' rhythm throughout the contest, forcing turnovers and limiting clean looks in the paint. The Tigers converted several defensive stops into transition opportunities, turning them into easy baskets that kept momentum on their side.

The Tigers' communication on switches and ball denial limited Morris' top scorers, holding the Hornets to just 18 points across the middle two quarters. As the game progressed, Voorhees' conditioning and tempo wore down the home team, resulting in a dominant 23-point fourth quarter to seal the win.

Glover's Impact in Season Debut

The victory marks a successful start for Coach Edward Glover and his Lady Tigers team! Glover's emphasis on pace, defensive accountability, and balanced scoring was on full display as the Tigers executed efficiently across all four quarters.

Voorhees (1–0) will look to continue its momentum in the home opener next week when the Tigers hit the road to face Spartanburg Methodist College next Wednesday, November 5, 2025.
