In a gripping showdown, the Voorhees University Lady Tigers showcased their dominance with a 69-57 win against the Oakwood Lady Ambassadors at home in Denmark, SC, on February 15, 2025. This HBCU athletic conference contest saw the Lady Tigers improve their season record to 12-13.
Led by
Inga Colclough's impressive 20 points and 10 rebounds, the Lady Tigers set the tone at Voorhees University's Basketball Arena.
Shy'Kiera Brown and
Ty'Shemia Bunkley also stood out, each contributing 12 points, with Brown leading in assists with three. The team presented a robust effort in rebounding and defense, an aspect highlighted by
Cambria Parker's three steals.
The game kicked off with an early display of competitiveness, ending the first period with Oakwood leading 12-11. However, Voorhees University swiftly gained momentum in the second period, securing a 33-20 halftime advantage, primarily thanks to strategic plays from
Cambria Parker and pivotal three-pointers by
Shy'Kiera Brown and
Ty'Shemia Bunkley.
Voorhees' defense intensified in the third period, helping to extend their lead by up to 19 points. The final period was challenging, as Oakwood attempted a comeback by scoring 22 points, but the Lady Tigers held firm and sealed the victory with robust defense and effective scoring.
Looking ahead, the Lady Tigers are set to face Rust College on February 16, 2025, at the same venue in Denmark, SC. With this win and a crucial match on the horizon, the Lady Tigers aim to capitalize on their current momentum and further improve their record in the competitive season.
