History was made in Louisville as Voorhees University's men's track team emerged victorious at the first-ever HBCU Division II Indoor Track and Field National Championship. Competing against top HBCU programs from NCAA Division II, Division III, NAIA, and NJCAA, the Tigers put on a dominant display to claim the inaugural title.
The championship, a landmark event for HBCU track and field, saw Voorhees University athletes rise to the occasion with standout performances across multiple events.
Leading the charge was Damarion Alexander, who sprinted to victory in the men's 60-meter dash, showcasing elite speed and composure in the finals. Jahlandon Wilson followed suit with a commanding performance in the men's 60-meter hurdles, securing another gold for the Tigers.
In the field events, Jaylen Burris soared to the top in the triple jump, while Jarquavian Williams showcased his vertical prowess, claiming victory in the high jump.
The Tigers capped off their championship performance with a thrilling win in the 4x200 meter relay, as the team of Landon Dupper, Tumari Collins, Parris Hawkins, and Damarion Alexander powered their way to a first-place finish, sealing Voorhees' claim to the title.
"This is a monumental achievement for our program," said a proud Voorhees coach. "To come out and win the first-ever HBCU Division II Indoor Championship speaks volumes about the hard work and dedication of these athletes. They put everything on the line, and it showed."
With this historic victory, Voorhees University cements itself as a powerhouse in HBCU track and field, setting the standard for future competitions. The Tigers now set their sights on the outdoor season, ready to build on their championship legacy.
