Anthony Wayne "Tony" Davis, born and raised in Paterson, New Jersey, attended Eastside High School before beginning his collegiate career. After a year at Passaic County Junior College and playing in renowned leagues such as the Rucker League, Baker League, West Fourth League, and Pro AM, Davis joined Voorhees College in the Fall of 1985. In his debut season in January 1986, he averaged 17 points, 4 rebounds, and 6 assists per game.
During his time at Voorhees, Davis was known for his exceptional passing, rebounding, and defensive skills, as well as his ability to score with deceptive moves. He recorded impressive game highs of 56, 39, and 33 points against Newberry, Erskine, and Wofford Colleges, respectively. Davis led District 6 in scoring with an average of 27.8 points per game in 1986-87 and 1987-88, earning EIAC Most Valuable Player and All-District honors for both seasons. He also received numerous accolades, including All-District, Kiwanis Club All-Tournament Team, USA Player of the Week, and District 6 Player of the Week.
Davis was named the State of South Carolina Men's Basketball Player of the Year in 1988 and scored over 1500 points during his career at Voorhees. A two-time All-American, Tony Davis was inducted into the EIAC Hall of Fame in 1995, recognizing his significant contributions both on and off the court.
