Hall of Fame
Garon Jackson, a 1999 graduate of Voorhees University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology, made a lasting impact on the University's track and field program as a student-athlete. His impressive performances and leadership paved the way for a successtul coaching career spanning nearly two decades. "This is a great honor," Jackson said. "I appreciate the coaches, athletes, and teammates who helped create a winning culture at Voorhees University."
During his tenure at Voorhees, Jackson competed as a middle and long-distance runner, setting records in the 800, 1500, 5000, and 10000 meters, as well as cross country. He was named the EIAC Most Valuable Runner in cross country for four years and in track and field for three years, finishing undefeated at the EIAC Championships throughout his collegiate career. As head coach at Voorhees, he produced several NAIA National Qualifiers, All-Americans, and an NAIA National Champion.
In 2020, Jackson became the head track and field coach at Claflin University, where he led the Panthers to their first-ever CIAA Men's Indoor Track & Field Championship in 2023, earning CIAA Men's Indoor Coach of the Year honors. Jackson was also inducted into the Sumter Sports Hall of Fame in 2017. He is a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated.
