Garon Jackson, a 1999 graduate of Voorhees University with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology, left an indelible mark on the institution’s track & field program as both an elite student-athlete and championship coach.

During his collegiate career, Jackson excelled as a middle- and long-distance runner, setting school records in the 800m, 1500m, 5000m, and 10,000m, along with cross country. He was named EIAC Most Valuable Runner in cross country four consecutive years and track & field MVP three times. Remarkably, he finished undefeated at the EIAC Championships throughout his entire collegiate career — a testament to his dominance and competitive consistency.

Reflecting on his career and impact, Jackson shared:
“This is a great honor. I appreciate the coaches, athletes, and teammates who helped create a winning culture at Voorhees University.”

Following his graduation, Jackson transitioned seamlessly into coaching, building a nearly two-decade career defined by athlete development and championship success. As head coach at Voorhees, he produced multiple NAIA National Qualifiers, All-Americans, and an NAIA National Champion, continuing the tradition of excellence he helped establish as a competitor.

In 2020, Jackson was named head track & field coach at Claflin University. Under his leadership, the Panthers captured the program’s first-ever CIAA Men’s Indoor Track & Field Championship in 2023. His efforts earned him CIAA Men’s Indoor Coach of the Year honors, further solidifying his reputation as one of the region’s premier coaches.

Jackson’s accomplishments extend beyond the track. He was inducted into the Sumter Sports Hall of Fame in 2017 in recognition of his athletic and coaching achievements. He is also a proud member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated.

From record-setting athlete to championship coach, Garon Jackson’s legacy reflects excellence, leadership, and an enduring commitment to advancing track & field.
