Frank Hyland, originally from Trinidad & Tobago, earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Barber-Scotia College and a Master of Science in Sport Management from Benedict College. As the head coach for the Tigers, he developed the program through effective recruitment, policy setting, and programming to cultivate elite student-athletes. His coaching philosophy is encapsulated in his motto: "You've got to do what you have to do, to do what you want to do! And there should be no excuses, just results." He has amassed an impressive coaching record, including 22 conference championships in the NAIA during his nine-year tenure at Voorhees College, 18 championships at Benedict College in the SIAC, and 2 at Virginia State University in the CIAA.
He is recognized for his achievements, including defeating Morehouse College in the Men's cross-country championships and producing three individual NCAA South Regional champions. Notably, he has coached 12 Men's Individual SIAC Cross Country champions, 9 Women's Individual SIAC Cross Country Champions, and numerous individual track and field champions, including Shemar Miller, who he guided to the school's first NCAA Division Il National Championship in the Men's Triple Jump in 2021.
Hyland's coaching accolades include multiple Coach of the Year honors across various conferences and levels. In addition to his coaching career, he is an active member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc. and USTFCCCA, and has been involved in violence prevention training. He is married to Wendy Hyland, and they have three children: Daven Jones, Olivia Hyland, and Frank CJ Hyland.
