Born in Georgetown, British Guyana, South America, in 1921, Coach Kenneth F. Sandiford received his early education at Bordentown Manual Training High School in Bordentown, New Jersey. His service in the U.S. Army during World War II preceded his pursuit of higher education, earning a B.A. degree from Shaw University and an M.A. degree from Indiana State University.

From 1954 to 1967, Sandiford taught at C.A. Johnson High School in Columbia, South Carolina, where his track teams garnered eight state championships. His leadership in 1960 at the Penn Relays in Philadelphia, mwhere his team finished third in the high school division, highlighted his coaching prowess.

In 1967, Sandiford took on the role of Director of Athletics and Coordinator of Health and Physical Education at Voorhees College. Under his guidance, Voorhees' track teams won the SIAC Conference championships in both 1973 and 1980. Sandiford was honored as the SIAC Coach of the Year five times and received the NAIA District 6 Coach of the Year award in 1980 and 1983. His dedication extended beyond athletics; he served as the Coordinator of Recreation at the Central Correctional Institution for eleven years and participated in numerous civic and humanitarian activities. He passed away in 2013, survived by his wife Lydia, sons Karl, Darrell, Kenneth, and daughter Lea.
