Adrian West, a native of Jacksonville, Florida, built a distinguished legacy as both a standout student-athlete and championship baseball coach.
West attended William M. Raines High School before continuing his academic and athletic career at Florida A&M University, where he was a key contributor to the Rattlers baseball program. During his time at FAMU, he earned Most Valuable Player honors in 1991 and was named to the All-Tournament Team, highlighting his impact on the field.
He began his collegiate coaching career at Edward Waters College in 1995 before being named head baseball coach at Voorhees College in 1996. Under his leadership, the Tigers experienced sustained success, capturing EIAC Championships in 2001 and 2002, along with an EIAC Tournament Championship in 2006.
Beyond wins and championships, West emphasized academic achievement and personal development. More than 85 percent of his student-athletes graduated, reflecting his commitment to preparing players for success beyond the diamond.
West’s professional engagement extended into national coaching circles, including involvement with the American Baseball Coaches Association and the Black Coaches Association. His dedication to Voorhees was recognized when he was named Co-Staff Member of the Year for the 2020–2021 academic year.
Through competitive excellence and an unwavering focus on education, Adrian West left a lasting imprint on the Voorhees baseball program and its student-athletes.
