Sarah Simpson, a native of Great Falls, South Carolina, dedicated nearly 45 years of service to Voorhees University, leaving an enduring legacy of leadership, service, and Tiger pride.
A 1972 graduate of Great Falls High School, Simpson continued her education at Friendship Junior College before enrolling at Voorhees College, where she earned her degree in 1977. Her professional journey at her alma mater spanned multiple decades and roles, reflecting her deep commitment to the institution’s mission.
Throughout her tenure, Simpson served in a variety of leadership positions, including Director of Housing, Bookstore Coordinator, Residence Life Coordinator, Student Activities Director, and head of the Voorhees College Programming Board. She was actively involved in the National Alumni Association and served as Campus Adviser to the Eta Phi Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, mentoring generations of students.
Simpson’s impact extended significantly into athletics. She served as Head Coach of the Women’s Softball team and successfully raised more than $30,000 in support of the Athletic Department. Her leadership was also central to organizing and enhancing Voorhees College Homecoming for more than 20 years, creating traditions and experiences that strengthened alumni and community engagement.
In recognition of her unwavering dedication, Simpson was inducted into the Voorhees College Hall of Fame in 2012. Her legacy continued in 2024 when she played a pivotal role in helping secure financing for the campus statue honoring Elizabeth Evelyn Wright Menafee, the institution’s founder — a fitting tribute aligned with her lifelong devotion to Voorhees’ founding values.
