A native of Great Falls, South Carolina, Sarah Simpson graduated from Great Falls High School in 1972 before continuing her education at Friendship Junior College and Voorhees College, where she graduated in
1977. Simpson's dedication to Voorhees University spanned nearly 45 years, serving in various roles including Director of Housing, Bookstore Coordinator, Residence Life Coordinator, Student Activities Director, and leader of the Voorhees College Programming Board. She was also involved in the college's National Alumni Association and served as the Campus Adviser to the Eta Phi Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc.
Simpson's commitment to athletics was demonstrated through her role as Head Coach of the Women's Softball team and her efforts in raising over $30,000 for the Athletic Department. Her leadership extended to organizing Voorhees College Homecoming for over 20 years, creating memorable events.
Inducted into the Voorhees College Hall of Fame in 2012, Simpson's legacy continued with her pivotal role in helping to secure financing for the statue of Elizabeth Evelyn Wright-Menafee on campus in 2024. Her lifelong devotion to the mission of Voorhees University reflects the values initiated by its founder.
